poems

______________________________________

Did you ask permission to borrow the dream
Did you lie to the magician juggling your heart
Did you gaze at stars like they didn't know
Did you think you could just depart

Did you ask permission to hide the dream
Did you pull love out of a hat
Did you call to heaven for guidance and truth
Did you still your heart with as little as that

Did you ask permission to return the dream
Did you really want to know
Did you want to gamble it all away
Did you realize the natural flow

Orange

You look better peeled
not to mention sliced or juiced
morning after morning I had you
why did I have such faith in Linus Pauling
I even dreamed of vitamin C
the rash did not subside
the medicine did nothing
the doctor said stop
but it was only the beginning

______________________________________

entangled in your fragile chain
learning the lessons of the soul
ambitious dreams before I awake
life as theater in search of my role
for what I am
and for what heaven may think
struggling with the give and take
clinging to love from afar
as our flesh unites as the missing link

______________________________________
the midnight gypsy came by last night
she brought stories of you
in her palms of gold
I followed the lines until the break of day
until the gypsy disappeared
I followed the chanting
of psalms of old
until you reappeared

______________________________________
down the path to marble rock
creators damned and dolls obey
prolonging justice as tears collide
marching in time to the drummers cry
upon mister thinkers thought lies
the dream of the guilty doomed
away the road leaves from where it arrives
till death do us part in the suburban ruin

______________________________________
if the ocean asked you to be a wave
would you crash into rocks
could you be so brave
______________________________________

to john lennon

a man came down to the corner last night
to dance with midnight eyes
a man came down to the corner last night
to dance with midnight lies
he asked the street if his words made sense
he chained his love to the sound
he asked the street if his words made sense
he chained his blood to the ground
______________________________________
they lowered the midget for nearly a mile
trying to save the clowns swallowed smile

______________________________________

butterflies sing to you each morning
strange words at any hour
mistaken identity
thinking you it's flower

caress the burning bush
for it was here that the butterfly traded it's colors for the scripture and cloth
each morning filled with songs of sin
like the aftertaste of last nights gin

______________________________________

the eyelids of the monster grew
heavy by the hour
blood red patterns of love and desire
cast shadows on it's scales
invites to the finest nightmares were addressed to a select few
depicting lovers being devoured
by on and off passions we always knew
